Hugh Albrecht Scholarship Application

Puget Sound Skills Center offers seniors the opportunity to apply for the Hugh Albrecht Scholarship

It is important to follow the directions carefully and completely. All applications are due by May 2nd.  Incomplete applications will not be accepted.


Hugh Albrecht was honored to be the Founding Director of Puget Sound Skills Center. He grew up in the Georgetown neighborhood and attended Seattle’s Cleveland High School. He went on to spend four years in the U.S. Coast Guard, returning to Ellensburg to attend Central Washington University (then C.W.C. or Central Washington College). He graduated in 1958 with degrees in Mathematics and Industrial Arts, later receiving a Master’s in Mathematics. Hugh had a long and substantial career in education and was part of the Highline School District for 27 years. 


In 1966, Hugh became the first director of the Occupational Skills Center for the Highline, South Central and Federal Way School Districts. He retired in 1987. 


Students applying for the Hugh Albrecht Scholarship should be: 

• A member of the senior class currently enrolled in PSSC, graduating in the spring term. 

• A student who demonstrates and articulates a financial need. 

• An individual who shows an evident passion in their field of interest. 

• A person with a strong work ethic as demonstrated through school, church or employment. 

• An emerging leader as shown in activities both within and outside of PSSC. 


The Albrecht Family and the Puget Sound Skills Center has established this scholarship to recognized Hugh’s outstanding contribution to the PSSC and to the greater community of the region for which the school continues to serve. 


QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS 

• Applicant must be a senior graduating during the current school year. 

• Apply for only one (1) Puget Sound Skills Center scholarship. 

• Must have completed at least one year in a PSSC training program by June of the current school year. 


Submit the Application Package with the following forms to PSSC Foundation Secretary by the deadline: 

 Hugh Albrecht Scholarship Application Form 

 Teacher Recommendation Form 

 General Recommendation Form 


APPLICATION REVIEW AND SELECTION PROCESS 

• An Award/Scholarship Selection Committee comprised of PSSC Foundation Members and PSSC Staff will review the applications using the following five-point rating scale. 

0 Points No Response 

1 Points Minimal Response 

2 Points Below Average Response 

3 Points Average Response 

4 Points Above Average Response 

5 Points Excellent Response 


Scholarship funds will reimburse student with proof of purchase (receipt) of tuition, books, program fees, or tools. Note: Expenses covered by Student loans are not eligible for reimbursement. Reimbursement will be processed and mailed within 4 to 6 weeks of receipt of submittal and within 24 months of graduation. 


Awardees will receive their award at the PSSC Recognition Ceremonies during graduation. 


In the More Info field, write a minimum of four paragraphs (500 words or less), please address each of the following, stating what each means to you and providing specific examples of how you have demonstrated:

• A financial need 

• An evident passion in your field of interest 

• A strong work ethic as demonstrated through school, church or employment. 

• Leadership in activities both within and outside of PSSC

Foundation ($3,000)/K9 Sniffer (2@$2500)/McMicken Heights

The Puget Sound Skills Center Foundation offers seniors the opportunity to apply for  scholarships to be applied towards tuition, books, program fees, or training tools to any  college, university or training organization. NOTE: Applicants for the McMicken  Scholarship must be Sea-Tac residents (Zip Codes 98148, 58, 68, 88, 98). The  Yormark award is intended for tools and equipment only 


QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS 

• Applicant must be a senior graduating during the current school year. • Apply for only one (1) Puget Sound Skills Center scholarship. 

• Must have completed at least one year in a PSSC training program by graduation.

Recipients of awards/scholarships will be notified by the first week of May. Scholarship funds will reimburse student with proof of purchase (receipt) of tuition, books, program fees, or tools. Note: Expenses covered by student loans are not eligible for reimbursement. Reimbursement will be processed and mailed within 4 to 6 weeks of receipt submittal within 24 months of graduation. 


Awardees will receive their award at the PSSC Recognition & Awards Ceremony at the Highline School District Performing Arts Center in June.
